Cookie Policy

Last Updated: 15 June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Property Zone Ireland ("Property Zone", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on propertyzone.ie and related pages of our property search, listing, account and support services. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

Legal note: this policy is intended to describe our current cookie and similar-technology practices in plain English. It is not legal advice and should be reviewed periodically as the site and third-party integrations change.

1. What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They can help a website remember that you are logged in, protect forms from abuse, keep choices you have made, or understand how the website is used. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, tags, device identifiers and embedded third-party content.

Under Irish and EU rules, storing information on your device or accessing information already stored on your device usually requires your consent, unless the technology is strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested or is used only to transmit a communication over an electronic communications network.

2. How We Use Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Strictly necessary functions: to keep the site secure, keep you logged in, process forms, remember server-side session state and prevent cross-site request forgery.
  • Account and preference functions: to support account pages, saved searches, shortlists, viewings, affordability tools, feature testing and other services you choose to use.
  • Security and fraud prevention: to detect suspicious activity, protect listings, reduce spam and preserve service integrity.
  • Performance and analytics: to understand broad usage patterns and improve the service. Where analytics cookies or tracking tags are enabled and are not strictly necessary, they should only run with consent.
  • Embedded content and maps: to show maps, property locations, video tours or other third-party content where you choose to view those features.

3. Cookies and Storage We Currently Expect to Use

Name / technology Purpose Type Typical duration
sessionid Keeps your secure session active after login and supports account functionality. Strictly necessary Up to 2 weeks, unless you log out or clear cookies sooner.
csrftoken Protects forms and requests against cross-site request forgery. Strictly necessary / security Set by the site framework; duration may vary by browser and configuration.
messages / session messages Shows one-time notices, such as save confirmations or form errors. Strictly necessary Usually expires after the message is displayed or when the session ends.
dwf_* Feature flag or A/B testing bucketing so the site can keep a consistent experience for a user. Preference / service improvement Up to 30 days.
utm data in server-side session Stores campaign parameters when you arrive through a campaign link, so we can understand attribution for enquiries and listings. Analytics / attribution For the duration of the server-side session unless cleared earlier.
localStorage: pz-compare-ids, pz-compare-category Remembers property comparison selections on your device. Preference Until you clear the comparison, clear browser data, or the value is replaced.
localStorage: pz_map_viewport Remembers the map position, zoom and drawn search area on map search pages. Preference Until you clear browser data or the value is replaced.
sessionStorage: save-search nudge state Remembers that you dismissed or used the save-search prompt during the current browsing session. Preference Until the browser tab/session ends.
Third-party map/media technologies May be used by Google Maps, OpenStreetMap tile services, YouTube no-cookie embeds, Vimeo or similar providers when maps or video content are loaded. Third-party / embedded content Controlled by the relevant third-party provider.
Analytics or tag-management cookies If enabled, these help us measure aggregate site usage and campaign performance. They are not required for basic site operation. Analytics / optional Depends on the analytics provider and consent settings.

4. Strictly Necessary Cookies

We may set strictly necessary cookies without asking for consent because the site cannot provide the requested service properly without them. This includes cookies and similar technologies used for login sessions, account security, form protection, fraud prevention, load balancing, error handling and remembering information needed to complete a user-requested action.

5. Optional Cookies and Consent

Cookies or similar technologies used for analytics, advertising, conversion tracking, personalised advertising or non-essential third-party integrations are optional. Where such technologies are enabled on the site, we should request your consent before they are placed on or accessed from your device.

Consent must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous. You should be able to refuse optional cookies and still use the core website, although some optional features, embeds or personalisation may not work in the same way.

6. Third-Party Services

Some parts of the site may rely on third-party services. These providers may set or read their own cookies or similar technologies when their content is loaded:

  • Google Maps: used to display property locations or map links on listing pages.
  • OpenStreetMap tile services and Leaflet libraries: used on map search and internal map tools.
  • YouTube no-cookie and Vimeo: used where a listing includes a video tour or embedded video content.
  • Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics or similar analytics tools: may be used for measurement if enabled and configured.

Third-party providers are responsible for their own cookie and privacy practices. Their cookies may involve transfers of data outside Ireland or the European Economic Area. Where we use optional third-party tracking, we aim to do so only where an appropriate legal basis and safeguards are in place.

7. Managing Cookies

You can change or withdraw your consent to optional (analytics and advertising) cookies at any time — it is as easy as giving it. Use the button below to re-open the consent banner and update your choice:

You can also control cookies and similar technologies in these ways:

  • Change your browser settings to block, delete or restrict cookies.
  • Clear local storage and session storage in your browser to remove on-device preferences such as compare selections or map viewport data.
  • Use privacy controls offered by third-party providers, such as Google, YouTube, Vimeo or your browser vendor.

Blocking all cookies may affect important functionality, including logging in, saving searches, managing listings, submitting forms, using shortlists, booking viewings or accessing account tools.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when our technology, third-party providers, consent tools or legal obligations change. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page shows when this document was most recently revised.
